In this series of blog postings, we feature our alumni as they talk about their experience being in the program as well as their unforgettable moments as former XU DevCom students.

Why did you choose XU DevCom?
During my senior year in Visayas Region High School, I thought of Business Ad or Engineering as courses to take in college. But as soon as DevCom students stepped into my classroom to advertise about the course, I immediately jumped ship. It was love at first sight. I was a member of the school paper since elementary and a photography hobbyist – taking DevCom in college felt like the right thing to do.
Tell us about your experience with the program.
You don’t get involve with the course and become a stranger after. In DevCom, I found my niche. I found friends that became my brothers until today. DevCom taught me the sense of community, of family. And its the best preparation I could ever have to face the real world after college.

What is your current job?
I work as a Field and Emergency Communications Specialist in World Vision. I write, photograph and film content for the organization’ regular projects and emergency responses. You can check more of my work at @monghumanitarianphotos.
Are you using what you learned in college?
In my work, I apply what I learned in Basic Photography, Journalism, Media Engagement, Design and Lay-out, Film making, and Communication Strategies
Would you recommend studying DevCom?
I know that the younger generation eats photography everyday.
If you want to join DevCom because you want to enhance your photo skills to improve your IG feed, don’t. DevCom is more than that. It is about having the sense of responsibility on the many social issues happening now, it is about having the compassion for the oppressed, it is about having the passion to serve. If you are up to the challenge, then DevCom is for you.
