To say “not to believe everything you see on social media” may now be an understatement to the freshmen students of XU DevCom who are taking up DEVCOM 4: Interpersonal Communication for Development.
Picking up on their discussion on interpersonal perception, the students were tasked to post something “unusual” on their social media accounts and see how people around their circle would react to it. The aim of the activity was to elaborate on the Attribution Theory – where people try to make sense of other people’s behavior; even particularly on social media.
Some posts were hilarious if you know the person.

Others would probably give their parents a heart attack (don’t worry, the parents have been briefed).

Others caused prompted their relatives to invite them for a serious talk.

While there were those who seem to have channeled their wishful thoughts in the activity.

Aside from elaborating the discussion on perceptions, the activity emphasize the need for students to be critical online and offline.
