Cagayan de Oro City – Continuing to achieve its goal to make peacebuilding a fun and exciting endeavor to take part in among the youth in the region, Xavier University’s Peacekwela has partnered with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 10 and the Provincial Youth Development Office to hold a boot camp for the Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation chairpersons of Misamis Oriental on October 26 in Mapawa Nature Park, Cagayan de Oro City.

The camp, dubbed as, “SKey to Peace”, emphasized the importance of positive narratives and the crucial role the SK plays to veer the youth away from violent extremist and insurgency recruitments in their respective communities.

“This is a timely activity to address several challenges which relate to peace in our municipalities,” said Provincial SK Federation President Kerwin Soldevilla, one of the campers, during one of the sharing sessions in the camp.

A total of 12 participants from various municipalities in Misamis Oriental joined the said camp. These are: Hon. Josephine Calos and Hon. Jason Balansag from Municipality of Initao, Hon. Jessa Lorono from Municipality of Gitagum, Hon. Nikko Fabria from Municipality of Alubijid, Hon. Michaella Emata from Municipality of Tagoloan, Hon. Lady Diana Carreon from Municipality of Jasaan, Hon. Tomas Caape Jr from Municipality of Salay, Hon. Jesper Lorenz Anayron from Municipality of Sugbongcogon, Hon. Caesar C. Cena from Municipality of Kinoguitan, Hon. Rodevick Felicilda from Municipality of Magsaysay,  Hon. North Maceda from Municipality of Talisayan and lastly the Provincial SK Federation President Hon. Kerwin Soldevilla.

Allyn A. Peňalosa, PYDO Misamis Oriental , said during an interview “We are grateful to Peacekwela for partnering Sangguniang Kabataan of Misamis Oriental, this will help to build more linkages towards peace awareness and the youth in the province who are vulnerable to several challenges related to peace”.

Peacekwela is an advocacy campaign of Xavier University’s Development Communication Department targeting the youth in making peace fun. Its partnership with DILG-10 and PYDO is part of the office’s efforts to heed to the president’s call for a whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace through Executive Order (EO) 70.
