In compliance with the quarantine protocols brought about by the pandemic, this year XU’s Development Communication Society is celebrating its DevCom Week with a twist: all the activities will be done virtually, accessible to all from the comfort of their own homes.

The week-long celebration, a longstanding tradition for DevCom Society, will run from February 22-27. In all the years it has been celebrated by the organization, this year’s installment will make history as the first one to be celebrated online.

“This year’s celebration is very different because of the current circumstance but we really wanted to push forward with this because it has been a long tradition of the DevCom community. We’re doing DevCom week virtually this time but it’s just as fun and exciting,” said DevComSoc President John Al Joshua Delos Reyes.

“DevCom Week is such a beautiful and precious time because it’s the one moment in the year where faculty and students come together to celebrate its milestones.” added Ms. Rechelle Ann T. Barraquias DevComSoc Moderator.

The celebration will open with its first-ever virtual photo exhibit entitled Lansad Dose – Balingasag: A breakthrough of colorful stories. The virtual exhibit will be made available on XU DevCom Society’s Facebook page, where followers of the page can browse through the album categories, engage through their comments, and vote for Lansad Dose’s People’s Choice award.

The festivities continue with Game 2 of the DC Trivia Night – an online game night where teams of five come together virtually to test their wits and win prizes.

On Day 3, in partnership with I am Mindanao, DevCom Society will hold a virtual conference entitled “I am Media Literate”, a conference that seeks to strengthen Media and Information literacy skills among students and faculty members in Northern Mindanao. The conference is designed to reinforce the role of the youth and faculty members in the peacemaking process by enhancing their literacy skills on media and information. The resource speakers for the event, which will be streamed live on DevCom Soc’s Facebook page, include Mr. Marlon Julian S. Nombrado, Atty. Ernesto B. Neri, and Mr. John Al Joshua Delos Reyes.

Finally, the celebration will end with a bang as it closes with two final events: the DevCom Night and AlumNights. This year’s DevCom Night revolves around the theme of Y2K: Press Play, where DevCom students get together virtually to play games, win prizes, and join the awarding ceremony.

This year’s AlumNights is also different. Entitled “DevCom All Around the World!”, it will feature XU DevCom alumni from all over the world, coming together virtually to celebrate a tradition that won’t be stopped by adversity.
