Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan’s Development Communication Department, in partnership with Lyf Solutions Inc., successfully brought the Media Literacy Roadshow to the local community. The event, held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, aimed to raise awareness about media literacy and combat the spread of disinformation.
The Media Literacy Roadshow, themed “Atong hisgutan, istorya sa Kagay-anon,” provided a platform to discuss the importance of media and information literacy in today’s digital age. The event gathered participants from various sectors, including students, educators, and community members, including participants of the recently-held National Schools Press Conferences (NSPSC), who were eager to learn and engage in discussions on responsible information consumption.
Kara David, a renowned broadcast journalist from GMA, delivered a compelling keynote speech at the event, where she shared her insights and experiences in navigating the media landscape. In addition, as the Chairperson of the Journalism Department in UP Diliman, David took the opportunity to launch their department’s project of producing a series of videos dedicated to equipping the audience with the skills and knowledge necessary to combat information disorder. Her presence not only added valuable perspectives to the event but also underscored the significance of media literacy in promoting informed and critical thinking.

Joining Kara David in the panel were Voltaire Tupaz, FYT Media Co-Founder and LYF CEO; local content creator, Jefrey Polo Robles; Internews Philippines Digital Engagement Specialist, Giano Libot, and DevCom Chairperson, Rechelle Ann Barraquias.
The partnership between Xavier University’s DevCom Department and Lyf Solutions Inc. showcased their shared commitment to promoting media literacy and empowering individuals to become discerning consumers of information. Through their collaborative efforts, they provided a valuable platform for the community to engage in meaningful conversations and gain practical skills to navigate the media landscape effectively.
The Media Literacy Roadshow served as a catalyst for promoting media literacy and fostering a culture of responsible information sharing in the local community. It is through such initiatives that Xavier University and its partners continue to contribute to the development of an informed and media-literate society.
