September 5, 2023 – The DevCom Department at Xavier University continued its Alumni Talks Series with a panel featuring accomplished alumni who have successfully transitioned from DevCom to the legal profession. The event aimed to shed light on the valuable role of a Development Communication degree in law school and beyond.

The esteemed panel included Atty. Stephen Roy Pedroza, Atty. Ariana Cristelle Pagdanganan, Atty. Nina Bea Cadorna, and Atty. Gladys Bitsy Sarominez. Each alum shared insights into their journeys from DevCom undergraduates to legal practitioners.

Atty. Pagdanganan emphasized the importance of communication skills in law school, highlighting how her DevCom background helped her excel. She stated, “Taking DevCom for undergrad was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It pays to leverage your communication and presentation skills.”

On the other hand, Atty. Sarominez fondly recalled her DevCom experiences, particularly mentioning immersion and theater, as crucial in shaping her skills. She added, “After years of studying and persevering in Law School, I think about how the law can serve the people in the peripheries (as inculcated during my undergrad years in DevCom).”

Atty. Cadorna reflected on her DevCom journey, noting that the program’s activities exposed her to various communities. “DevCom made me more socially aware. There were many activities that allowed us to immerse ourselves and witness the different problems faced by these communities,” she shared.

Atty. Pedroza, meanwhile, highlighted the strong foundation that his DevCom immersion provided for his future studies. He noted how this experience set the stage for his four-year journey in the program.
