Alumni of Xavier University’s Development Communication Department (DevCom) working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have “come home” on September 6th to share insights with the newest crop of students. This event was part of the Alumni Talks Series held at the DevCom Studio.
During the session, alumni Mary Ann “Mai” Zamora, Rey Anthony “Rayox” Anacleto, Trinnah Marie Caracho, and Ramon Lucas “Mong” Jimenez discussed their experiences in the field of NGOs.

Mai Zamora emphasized, “My DevCom studies have provided me with the grounding experience; the idea that I am a storyteller who can use these stories to change people’s lives.”
Rayox Anacleto noted, “Here (with DevCom), I realized how communication can be harnessed as a tool for development and change.”

Mong Jimenez, whose passion for photography has found his niche in bringing the stories of people to the ground through his photos, emphasized how “communication is aid”.
Trinnah Caracho shared, “My love for development work was concretized during my undergrad years at DevCom. This allowed me to explore different advocacies and get to know myself more.”
These alumni stories collectively emphasized the importance of communication in the NGO sector. This event aimed to inspire the new freshman class, providing them with valuable insights into the field of Development Communication. It showcased the department’s commitment to producing graduates who can make a positive impact on society through effective communication.
