In a significant organizational change, Xavier University has announced that the Development Communication Department will move from the College of Agriculture to the College of Arts and Sciences, effective from the School Year 2025-2026.
The decision, formalized through a memo issued by the Office of the President on July 16, was made by the university’s Board of Trustees (BOT), recognizing the department’s potential to broaden its scope beyond the agricultural domain.
The news caught most of its alumni by surprise and has elicited mixed emotions. While there is a sense of sadness about leaving the College of Agriculture, many alumni see this new beginning as an opportunity for the department to strengthen its programs and causes.
The dynamic nature of the field allows it to address not only the technical needs in agriculture but also non-technical development issues in the social sciences. This transition is viewed as a chance to broaden the department’s impact and relevance in addressing a wider range of societal challenges.
