Development Communication students from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan won 3rd place in the Infomercial Contest Category of the 8th Regional Health Research Conference held at Misamis University, Ozamiz, Misamis Occidental, from October 7 to 9, 2025.

Anchored on the theme “Regional Health Research in Action: Driving Innovation, Impact, and Inclusive Growth,” the XU-DevCom team, composed of fourth-year students Val Mathew Gabutan, Justine Loreto, and Ivana Janlee Otoc, creatively produced a three-minute infomercial titled “I’m In” that emphasized how health research drives innovation, impact, and inclusive growth, aligning with this year’s conference theme.

The group represented the university and competed against various institutions in the region.

The recent win continues the consistent performance of Xavier University’s Development Communication program in the regional conference. XU DevCom previously earned first place in the Infomercial Contest in 2023 and second place in 2024, maintaining a three-year streak of victory in said category.

The event, organized by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS), gathered students, researchers, and professionals to share insights and ideas on advancing health research, innovation, and sustainability across the region.

The three-day conference also featured various competitions as well as plenary discussions to share the role of health research in achieving sustainable health outcomes across the region.

For the students, the competition was an opportunity to use the power of storytelling in reaching communities, inspiring action, and promoting inclusive development.
