Two student research groups from XUDevCom were among the 41 research awardees at the Kinaadman Support for Student Research (KSSR) on Feb 7 at the Nursing Amphitheater.

The studies, “Textual Analysis on Women Identification in PDuterte’s Speeches in March 2018” by Bianca Ginne Daamo, Megumi Tacastacas, Iana Edrianne Awayan” with their adviser Ms Rechelle Ann Barraquias, and “Evaluation of DA’s IEC Materials on Rice Farming” by Diane Esmade, Marjolaine Fadrique, Marian Agnes Tan, and Gregory Pasal with adviser Mr. Evans Yonson also make up the 11 studies in the College of Agriculture granted with the support.

Dr. Ester Lara Raagas, Dean of Research, in her opening remarks shared that how each year, KURO grants support to exemplary research works in the university hoping that this “would contribute to the students’ experience of being (here) in Xavier Ateneo”.

In his message, Fr. Roberto C Yap, SJ, the University President also stressed how important research is in a student’s college life. He made this into 3 points: 1) that research forces one to “go into the matter deeply” 2) for critical thinking 3) for one to acknowledge that there is much more to learn, much more to know.

As awardees, each group will receive monetary support from the Kinaadman University Research Office (KURO).
